All individuals within the Washington County Empowerment Area will have a community that values and provides the opportunity to maximize their potential in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment, through partnering and collaborative efforts.
General definition:
Empowerment is a statewide initiative that provides local funding for programs to benefit all families with children 0-5 years old. The Washington County Empowerment Board consists of 11 members and meets monthly to establish priorities and needs for the local area, approve funding for local programs, and maintain progress toward a community plan established by the Board.
Identified local priorities:
1.
health care coverage for all children 0-5
2.
prevent child abuse and neglect
3.
universal network and support available for anyone involved with children
0-3 yrs of age (priority of teen mothers, newborns, & 1st time mothers)
4.
preschool available for every child
5.
increase capacity & quality of child care with emphasis on health and safety
6.
comprehensive and affordable transportation for families to access resources
